Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are all of the ingredients in Selestial Soap natural?
Yes. We use only natural ingredients to make Selestial Soap.
2. Will Selestial Soap work in my front-loading high-efficiency washing machine?
Yes. Selestial Soap is perfect for your high efficiency washer. The non-sudsing, clean rinsing formulation will not leave a residue on your clothing or in your machine. We recommend using 1 oz of Selestial Soap per load in high efficiency washing machines.
3. Why doesn't Selestial Soap create suds?
Contrary to popular belief, suds are not necessary for cleaning and can actually harm fabrics and machinery. Suds leave a residue on fabrics that attracts dirt and grease in the air and affects the fabric's breathability. In your machine, suds cause drag that decreases spin speed and increases required drying time. Over time, excess suds can cause failure of drain pumps.

No. Selestial Soap does not contain phosphates or optical brighteners.
5. How are Selestial Soaps scented if they don't contain perfumes?

6. Why don't you offer Selestial Soap in powder form?
We do offer powder Selestial Soap at Eastfield Laundry in Traverse City, MI. However, powdered detergents often do not dissolve completely leaving white residue on fabrics and may cause mechanical problems in your washer. This is especially true in high efficiency machines that use less water. Because of these issues, we are only offering Selestial Soap in a highly concentrated, clean rinsing liquid form to retailers and on our website.

16. Why is your tagline “Saving the Planet Within your Budget”?

Selestial Soap is priced so that everyone can afford to make a difference for the environment and future generations.

19. What is Sodium Laureth Sulfate and does Selestial Soap contain SLS?
Sodium Laurel Sulfate is an inexpensive sudsing agent that is used in many detergents and shampoos. There is a great deal of evidence that sodium laurel sulfates and not good for people or the environment (see these links). They also create suds which causes many other issues (see question 3). Some natural products list "coconut oil derivative" or "plant derived cleaning agent" on their label. This is often Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Keep in mind, just because something comes from a natural source doesn't mean that it's good for you or 100% safe. Selestial Soap does not contain any Sodium Laureth Sulfate.
20. Why did you introduce Selestial Soap when there are now so many "green" and "natural" cleaning products available.
Believe it or not, there is no agency that is regulating the use of the terms "green" or "natural" on cleaning products like the FDA does for "organic" in foods. It really bothers us to see consumers spending extra money trying to do the right thing for the environment and not really accomplishing their goal.
During our research developing Selestial Soap, we found that most of the products on the shelves today do NOT contain all natural ingredients, or even if they are natural, they still aren't necessarily a good idea to use for a wide variety of reasons. We are proud to offer a product that we use ourselves and that does not contain ingredients that are harmful to you or the environment.
